PROJECTARBOR DAY 2021 PLANTING - 6 NEW TREES!
April 30, 2021 Happy Arbor Day! It's been quite a strange pandemic year, but we celebrate Arbor Day in the Village of Cold Spring today with gratitude and renewed appreciation for the hopeful act of planting trees for future generations to enjoy. Thank you to the residents who donated funds for a few of the trees we planted this spring , and to the village volunteers and our dedicated Highway Crew who did the heavy lifting and worked along side members of the Tree Advisory Board to plant a total of 6 new trees in the village (and one additional tree moved from a park to become a street tree) this spring in honor of Arbor day. We are also thrilled to celebrate our 5th Year as a Tree City USA community! We are very happy to finally plant a new Parrotia persica (Persian ironwood) tree in front of Village Hall to replace an ash tree lost several years ago to Emerald Ash Borer. The other trees planted this week were: Parrotia persica on Parrott St Crataegus virdis (hawthorne) on Northern Avenue Parrotia persica on Main St Aesculus × carnea "Briotii" (red horse chestnut) on Main St Nyssa Sylvatica (tupelo) in Mayors' Park Taxodium distichum (baldcypress )on Market St. If you'd like to donate a tree to be planted on public property near your business or residence please contact the village clerk (845) 265-3611 or email the Tree Advisory Board at [email protected]. |
The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now. |
