ARBOR DAY 2023 PLANTING
April 29, 2023 Happy Arbor Day Cold Spring! To mark the occasion, the village is pleased to announce the addition of new trees -- 10 total -- to our public street tree inventory! Four new trees were planted in the village on April 29 to celebrate Arbor Day. A new Eastern Redbud was planted by volunteers from the Tree Advisory Board in the prominent location right in front of Village Hall. In addition, thanks to the generous donation of a local resident, a new Green Hawthorne "Winter King" was planted by volunteers on Northern Avenue near the intersection of Garden Street. Finally, two small Shumard Oaks were planted on Main St. and Paulding Avenue to replace declining Norway Maples in those spaces that were taken down a few years ago. Six more trees will be planted on upper Main St next week to bring the total addition this spring to 10 new trees. These new plantings help diversify our inventory of public trees and will provide numerous environmental benefits during their lifetime including carbon sequestration, water runoff reduction, pollen, food and habitat for local wildlife and lovely shade to pedestrians on our sidewalks. We look forward to enjoying them for years to come! Questions about village trees? Please contact the village clerk at (845) 265-3611 or [email protected]. |
