PROJECTBEAUTIFICATION OF VILLAGE WATERFRONT IN COLLABORATION WITH COLD SPRING BOAT CLUB SPRING 2017
We aided the village in determining a planting plan for trees and shrubs to beautify/shade/hedge the village waterfront property on New Street that is home to the Cold Spring Boat Club. The boat club generously donated all of the funds and labor for the planting of these materials and the labor to newly paint the long fence on the property. An informal, open-form planting of native bayberry (Myrica pensylvanica) was planted in the summer of 2017 along with a new wet-site tolerant bald-cypress tree (Taxodium distichum). Bayberry is a multi-stemmed, deciduous/semi-evergreen shrub, native to the coasts of eastern North America (and can be seen at Stony Point). It is impervious to salt and inundation and grows between 6’ and 10’ tall at maturity. The lovely bald-cypress is a slow growing deciduous conifer that can grow in seasonally inundated soils and can reach up to 100ft tall at maturity. The Tree Advisory Board, on behalf of the Village Board of Trustees, extends its sincere thanks to the Boat Club for their kind collaboration on this great project! The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now. |
